Residential Zone & Housing

The Residential Sector consumes about 10 % of country's energy usage and there is a potential for saving 27-42% of energy by switching to improved devices, which are designed to maximise combustion rate (of fuel, ensuring the presence of sufficient oxygen), radiant heat transfer (from fire to vessels, keeping them as close to fire as possible), convection (to pass maximum hot gas over vessels, reducing drafts), conduction (heat is concentrated near the vessels by using insulating material for the stove) and user satisfaction (with user friendly design). Irrespective of type of fuel, community, etc., improved stoves show significant saving in fuel. We can come over the problem with the practice of energy efficient technology and through energy conservation.

Some of the measures:

  • Turn off lighting system in any room if not using
  • Fuel-efficient equipment/appliances such as kerosene and LPG stoves,
  • Use of compact fluorescent lamps in place of GL lamps
  • Use of electronic ballasts saves about 20 % to 25 % of energy
  • Use of energy efficient 28W tube lights saves about 40 % of energy as compared to the conventional 40W tube light.
  • Use of solar light for lighting purpose during day time
  • Pumps for lifting water in high-rise buildings
  • On electric stoves, use flat bottom pans that make full contact with the element
  • Use of Fuel efficient stoves, popularly known as ASTRA stoves, are characterized by complete fuel combustion with as little excess air as practicable to generate the highest temperature of flue gases
